Making life easier for visually impaired people
The Royal Blind Society has been helping visually impaired people of all ages to live with dignity and independence for 140 years. Today, with up to two million people in the UK coping with a serious sight problem, our work is as relevant and vital as ever.
By providing practical support for people with little or no sight
the Royal Blind Society can help them lead more fulfilling and independent
lives:

Each year we give more than £100,000 in grants to visually impaired people on low incomes. Our grants can be used in a number of ways:
- to help pay household bills
- to fund work-related training
- to buy specialist medical equipment such as thick-lens spectacles
- to provide daily living aids such as a washing machine with Braille controls
- to meet emergencies and unforeseen needs
Christine (87) regularly burned herself while cooking on an open-flame gas stove. Our grant for a talking microwave increased her safety and independence

We can also provide grants for IT equipment, reading and literacy aids for young visually impaired people from low income families.
If you are interested in applying for a grant, please go to our Grant Application Page to see a copy of our grant guidelines and an application form.
Providing the practical help blind people need costs the Royal Blind Society £15,000 a month. The Society receives no government grants and relies entirely on voluntary donations. To make a contribution to this vital work please go to our Donations Page.
